The older people's health and rehabilitation service provides assessment, treatment and rehabilitation both as an outpatient service and an inpatient service (Ward 2A).


The intermediate care clinic

The clinic provides a range of services to help you rehabilitate and manage your long-term health conditions. Services may be in clinic or in your home.

  • diabetes and asthma educators
  • health psychologist.

As community patient, you will still see your usual healthcare provider for any medical concerns.

Services we provide

  • Rehabilitation and medical care.
  • Medical assessment and treatment for living independently.
  • Review of medications.
  • Physiotherapy for strength, balance, and mobility.
  • Occupational therapy for daily living skills, meal preparation, and home visits.
  • Speech-language therapy, social work, dietitian, health psychology, pharmacy services.
  • Pouhāpai (Māori Health) and chaplain visits available upon request.
  • Patients are encouraged to be up and dressed daily as part of rehabilitation.

What to take to hospital (internal link)

Family and whānau

  • Patients are encouraged to use their cell phones to maintain contact with family/whanāu and friends.
  • Family/whānau meetings will be arranged as needed. This is an opportunity for the patient and support people to meet with the hospital team to discuss ongoing care and
  • discharge planning.
    Where possible we aim to discharge patients by 11am.
